How to get to Long Beach on public transit

You need a beach pass to visit Long Beach during beach season, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Long Beach boardwalk is open year-round. 

You can get to Long Beach on the Long Island Rail Road.

How to get to Long Beach on public transit 

By LIRR: Take a Long Beach-bound Long Island Rail Road train.  

Fare information: Long Beach station is in Fare Zone 7. Get LIRR fare information. MTA Away offers special packages including discounted rail and bus fare and beach admission.

Tips for getting to the beach 

  • Buy your LIRR ticket before you board. You can buy tickets at a ticket office or at a vending machine.

  • Keep seats and aisles clear. Try to keep your beach gear out of walkways and doorways, too.

Option 1: Take the LIRR to Long Beach

Take a Long Beach-bound train from Penn Station, Grand Central, Jamaica, Lynbrook, or other local stops on the Long Beach branch. Most weekday trains start from Penn Station, and weekend trains start from Grand Central. You can transfer at Jamaica if you are coming from another terminal.

Exit at Long Beach station. From there, it's a short walk to the beach.
