Subway and rail service changes: March 15-18, 2024

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy St. Patrick's Day weekend! If you're traveling to Manhattan for the St. Patrick's Day Parade on Saturday, the LIRR and Metro-North are running extra trains. Check Schedules or TrainTime to see your options. Also, alcohol is prohibited on trains and in stations all day Saturday on Metro-North and all weekend on the LIRR.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  ​​​trains aren't running between 74 St-Broadway and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  • Overnight  trains are running on the  between Queens Plaza and 34 St-Herald Sq.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 39 Av-Dutch Kills.
    • Between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 57 St-7 Av, and then on the ​ to 96 St.
  • ​ trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park.

Major subway service changes

​​​​ trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday, ​​ trains aren't running between 74 St-Broadway and 34 St-Hudson Yards in either direction, and ​​ trains aren't running between 39 Av-Dutch Kills and 57 St-7 Av in either direction. This is to make accessibility upgrades at Queensboro Plaza.

  • For direct service between Manhattan and Queens, take ​​​​​​​​​ trains to/from Queens Plaza, 36 St, and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders at no additional cost for service between Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
  • Free shuttle buses are running along four routes:
    • Q107 between 74 St-Broadway and Queens Plaza, making all ​​ stops.
    • Q108 between 39 Av-Dutch Kills ​​and Queens Plaza.
    • Q93 between Queens Plaza, Queensboro Plaza, and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Q92 overnight only between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  • ​​ trains are running between Flushing-Main St and 74 St-Broadway.
  • ​​ trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 39 Av-Dutch Kills.
    • Between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 57 St-7 Av and on the  to 96 St.
  •  42 St Shuttle​ trains are running overnight between Times Sq-42 St and Grand Central-42 St.

​​ trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday, 11 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, and 11 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday, ​​ trains are running on the ​​ between Queens Plaza and 34 St-Herald Sq, the last stop, skipping 49 St in both directions. This is to make accessibility upgrades at Queensboro Plaza.

  • For service to/from Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av/53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the ​​.
  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the ​​ or use the nearby 57 St-7 Av ​​​​ station.
  • For service to/from stations between 50 St and World Trade Center, take the ​​.

​ trains, Brooklyn and Queens

​​​​​ trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • Free J90 shuttle buses are running between Jamaica-Van Wyck ​ and Crescent St, making all  stops between 121 St and Crescent St​​​​. 
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Crescent St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport, take the ​​​​​.
  • ​​ trains are running between Crescent St and Broad St.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

​ trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park in either direction from 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • For service between 96 St and 57 St-7 Av, take ​ trains, which are running on the ​ between these stations.
    • From 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, a ​ shuttle train is running between 96 St and 57 St-7 Av.
  • For service between 57 St-7 Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take ​​ trains.
  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, making all  stops.
  •  trains are running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are running on the express track from 14 St to Chambers St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • During the day and evening, ​ trains are running every 8 minutes and ​ trains are running every 12 minutes while ​​​ trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

Uptown ​ and local ​ trains are running on the express track from 125 St to 168 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Euclid Av-bound  and Queens-bound local  trains are running on the express track from from Broadway Junction to Euclid Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  trains are running on the express track from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 34 St-Herald Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
