Statement from MTA Chairman and CEO Patrick Foye:

“Since joining the MTA just over 10 years ago, Michael Garner has been a champion for minority and women owned businesses. Under his leadership as Chief Diversity Officer, the MTA has outperformed every agency in New York by awarding billions of dollars to MWBEs, representing nearly 30% of the MTA’s contracts. I am thrilled to see Michael and his team receive the recognition they deserve for their work to improve access and opportunities to these companies.”

Statement from MTA Chief Diversity Officer Michael Garner:

“I am honored to accept this award, not only on behalf of the caring and skilled diversity team at the MTA, but also on behalf of the minority and women owned businesses that are benefiting from MTA issued contracts. Under the effective leadership of Governor Andrew Cuomo, MTA Chairman & CEO Pat Foye, Diversity Committee Chairperson Rhonda Herman and the entire MTA Board, we have created the best MWDBE Program in the nation. Additional special thanks to the MTA Operating Agency Presidents, procurement and engineering staffs and the MTA’s Department of Diversity & Civil Rights. With more than $1.1 billion paid to New York State certified MWBEs during Fiscal Year 2019/20, we have created jobs within the Black, Hispanic, Asian-American and women Business Communities. Additionally, access to MTA Contracts equals homeownership, better educational opportunities and healthcare options. I would like to personally thank Crain’s New York Business for putting a focus on diversity in the Fortune 500 Capital of the World.”
