Subway and rail service changes: October 20-23

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated October 20, 2023 11:45 a.m.

It's shaping up to be another gloomy weekend out there (sigh). But we hope that doesn't deter you from making weekend plans!

If you're traveling late tonight, note that MetroCard vending machines won't accept credit or debit cards from 11:45 p.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday while we make software updates. Tap & go with OMNY, refill your MetroCard in advance, or pay with cash.

Taking off from JFK Airport? Your best bet will be taking the  train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK or LIRR to Jamaica, as  and  trains won't be running in most of Queens.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St
  •  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and 34 St-Hudson Yards
  •  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport
  • Downtown  trains are running on the  and  lines between 59 St-Columbus Circle and Jay St-MetroTech

  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling. We’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.

And don't forget to sign up for the MTA Weekender, a newsletter sent every Friday. You'll get these service changes directly in your inbox, with more than enough time to plan your weekend travel. Subscribe here.
