Subway and rail service changes: October 13-16

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

It's Friday the 13th, eek!

We hope that everyone has a day of good luck, and we wish everyone a perfectly splendid weekend ahead. (Even if it is supposed to rain, again.)

Taking off from JFK Airport? Now you can tap and go with OMNY on AirTrain! Note that your best travel route will be taking the  or ​ train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport or LIRR to Jamaica, as  trains won't be running in most of Queens.

Here's what's happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St
  •  trains aren't running at all
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse
  •  trains aren't running between Euclid Av and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK
  • Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the  line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq
  •  trains aren't running in Lower Manhattan
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park

Major subway service changes

 trains, all boroughs

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains are not running between 135 St in Manhattan and 3 Av-149 St in the Bronx;  trains are not running at all; and  trains are not running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E 180 St. This is because of accessibility upgrade work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along three routes:
    • Between 3 Av-149 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
    • Between 3 Av-149 St and 135 St.
    • Between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 135 St.
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and 135 St, then via the  line to/from Harlem-148 St, bypassing 145 St in both directions.
    • Between 3 Av-149 St and Wakefield-241 St
  • At 3 Av-149 St, board all  trains on the Manhattan-bound platform.
  •  trains are not running at all. For service to/from  stations, take the  or  train.
  •  trains are extended to New Lots Av all weekend.
  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse, bypassing 138 St-Grand Concourse northbound.
    • Between E 180 St and Dyre Av.
  • For service to/from 138 St-Grand Concourse, take the  train.
  • For service to  stations between E 180 St and 3 Av-149 St, take the  train.

 trains, Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens

​ trains are not running between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport/Lefferts Blvd in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Local between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
    • Express between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport. (Euclid Av-bound buses stop at Aqueduct-North Conduit Av.)
    • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • ​ trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av
    • Between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av
  • Travel tip: For direct service to/from JFK Airport, take the  or  train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the  line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St-Wash Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from High St, use the nearby York St  station.
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the  to/from Delancey St-Essex St. Transfer between  and  trains at Delancey St-Essex St.
  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St/World Trade Center, take the  train. Transfer between  and  trains at W 4 St-Washington Sq.

 trains, Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains are not running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St in either direction because of structural maintenance work.

  •  trains are running between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 161 St-Yankee Stadium, and downtown trains are bypassing 155 St.
  • For service to/from 155 St, take an uptown  train.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, take the .
  • Norwood-205 St is connected by a free D90 shuttle bus to Mosholu Pkwy . Transfer between  and  trains at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 5:30 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday,  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av in either direction and Coney Island-bound  trains are running on the express track from Jay St-MetroTech to Church Av. This is because of track maintenance.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, every 20 minutes
  • For service to/from 7 Av and Church Av, take the  train. Transfer between   and  trains by taking  trains between Jay St-MetroTech and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.
  • For service to/from Bergen St, Carroll St, Smith-9 Sts, 4 Av-9 St, 15 St-Prospect Park, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy, take a Manhattan-bound  train.

​ trains, Manhattan

​ trains are not running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • M14A/D-SBS and free L92 shuttle buses provide alternate service at 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq. Transfer between the M14/L92 and  at 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

​​ trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

​​ trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Prospect Park in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park, making a stop at 7 Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from 14 St-Union Sq, Canal St, and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take ​ trains.
  • For direct service between Midtown and Brooklyn, take the ​ train. Transfer to/from ​ trains at 34 St-Herald Sq and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  • ​​ trains are running in two sections:
    • Between 96 St and 34 St-Herald Sq
    • Between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av

​​ trains are running on the ​ line between Atlantic Av-Barcays Ctr and Canal St in both directions from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, use nearby ​​​ stations.
  • Overnight, ​ trains are only running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St, the last stop. Take ​ trains to continue your trip.
  • Reminder: Board ​​ trains on the ​ platform at Canal St.

Other service changes

trains, Manhattan

Uptown trains are running on the express track from Times Sq-42 St to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  • Overnight, when  trains normally run local, uptown  trains will make express stops between these stations.

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound ​ trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

All Branches

Some trains are running on a modified schedule from midnight Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvements at Amityville.

Babylon Branch

Service is reduced and trains are not stopping at Amityville from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvements at Amityville.

  • During daytime hours, Babylon Branch trains that normally run to and from Grand Central are canceled. Trains to and from Penn Station run on a revised schedule. Transfer at Jamaica for Grand Central.
  • Amityville riders should use Copiague or Massapequa Park stations instead.
  • The last trains to stop at Amityville are the 11:35 p.m. from Penn Station (departing Amityville at 12:28 a.m.) and 11:54 p.m. to Penn Station on Friday night. Service resumes with the 4:28 a.m. from Penn Station (departing Amityville at 5:24 a.m.) and the 4:21 a.m. to Penn Station on Monday morning.

Montauk Branch

Buses replace trains between Babylon and Montauk from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of track work near Patchogue.

  • Consider using the Ronkonkoma Branch if you can, as buses will take up to 75 minutes longer than normal train trips.
  • Due to the nationwide bus driver shortage, school buses are supplementing our regular coach bus service.
  • The last trains to run on Friday night are the 10:05 p.m. from Jamaica, 10:04 p.m. from Montauk, and 11:30 p.m. from Patchogue. Service resumes with the 4:10 a.m. from Speonk and the 5:40 a.m. from Babylon on Monday morning.
