Subway and rail service changes: November 3-6

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated November 3, 2023 11:00 a.m.

The days are getting shorter, the weather is getting chillier, and it's almost time to set our clocks back for the end of daylight saving time. (It changes Sunday at 2 a.m. — don't forget!).

If you're traveling late tonight, note that MetroCard vending machines won't accept credit or debit cards from midnight to 8 a.m. Saturday while we make software updates. Tap & go with OMNY, refill your MetroCard in advance, or pay with cash.

There's another big event happening this weekend on Sunday: The TCS New York City Marathon! If you're participating, remember that the uptown  isn’t stopping at Whitehall St this weekend. So if you’re going to the Ferry from Brooklyn, transfer to the  at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

If you're planning to cheer on friends and loved ones, the subway will be the best way to get to your viewing spot. Many buses along the marathon route will be detoured or partially suspended while runners do their thing, so it's best to avoid taking the bus if you can. If you can't, check for detours before you head out with our Planned Service Changes lookup tool.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  •  trains aren't running between W 4 St-Wash Sq and World Trade Center, and are rerouted to the  line
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St
  •  trains aren't running at all
  •  trains aren't running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling. We’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.

And don't forget to sign up for the MTA Weekender, a newsletter sent every Friday. You'll get these service changes directly in your inbox, with more than enough time to plan your weekend travel. Subscribe here.
