The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced service details for the upcoming July 4 holiday weekend. The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR), Metro-North Railroad, and Staten Island Railway will supplement early Friday afternoon service with additional trains to help New Yorkers get an early start on the three-day weekend. For Independence Day, Monday, July 4, New York City Transit will run on a weekend/Saturday schedule and LIRR and Metro-North will run on a Sunday schedule, with added Metro-North service on the New Haven Line and added return service on the LIRR from the Hamptons and Montauk. As a reminder, the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus, with connections to the LIRR from Woodside station and the and subway lines from Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av station, is fare free to and from LaGuardia Airport, until further notice.
Service details for each agency are below:
New York City Transit Subway
There are planned subway service changes from Friday, July 1 through Monday, July 4 to accommodate critical track and signal upgrades. Customers are advised to check new.mta.info or the MYmta app for real-time service updates and alternatives to help them plan their trip. Highlights listed below.
Brooklyn-bound and trains will operate via the line between West 4 St-Washington Sq in Manhattan and Jay Street-MetroTech in Brooklyn due to track work in the line tunnel.
There will be no service in the Bronx between 161 St and 205 St due to structural work in the Concourse line tunnel. Customers should take the parallel line instead.
Due to track work, the line operates in two sections between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs and between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn. Customers transfer between segments at Bedford-Nostrand Avs. This work ends at 3:00 p.m on Monday, July 4 to allow customers to travel to the fireworks show located on the East River.
Due to track panel installation, Manhattan-bound trains will skip stations between Broadway Junction and Myrtle Av/Broadway. Also due to track work, Jamaica-bound trains terminate at 121 St with further service provided by shuttle buses between 121 St and the train at Jamaica/Van Wyck.
Manhattan-bound trains will operate via the line between Coney Island and 36 St/4 Av due to track maintenance.
On the evening of Monday, July 4, extra service will run on the 42 St and the line following the fireworks show.
New York City Transit Bus
On Monday, July 4, New York City Transit buses will run on a Saturday schedule.
Long Island Rail Road
On Friday, July 1, the LIRR will run 10 extra afternoon trains to accommodate customers departing early for the holiday weekend. The 1:47 pm train from Hunterspoint Avenue to Montauk will depart up to 14 minutes later from Hampton Bays to Montauk. There is no scheduled trackwork for this weekend. On Saturday, July 2, the LIRR will operate on a normal Saturday schedule.
On Sunday, July 3, the LIRR will operate on a Saturday schedule. The added return service from the Hamptons and Montauk will not operate Sunday, but will instead operate on Monday, July 4.
On Monday, July 4, the LIRR will operate on a Sunday schedule with added return service from the Hamptons and Montauk.
On Tuesday, July 5, train 2705 will operate, departing Montauk at 7:28 am. This train normally runs on Summer Mondays. Additionally, an added train from Patchogue to Babylon will operate at 4:26 pm, with a transfer in Babylon to Western Terminals.
On Friday, July 1, Metro-North will run 10 extra afternoon trains on its East of Hudson and West of Hudson lines to better accommodate customers departing early for the holiday weekend. Some trains between 5:25 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. are canceled to best reallocate equipment and accommodate July 4 holiday weekend travel patterns. On Saturday, July 2, Metro-North will run on a normal Saturday schedule.
On Sunday, July 3, Metro-North will operate on a normal Sunday schedule.
On Monday, July 4, Metro-North will operate on a Sunday schedule, with 2 extra trains on the New Haven line and one extra train on the Port Jervis line.
MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Routine maintenance and construction at all MTA Bridges and Tunnels crossings will cease at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 30.
Daytime scheduled maintenance requiring full lane closures will be suspended beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1 through 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 5.
Critical roadwork may be permitted during overnight hours at times when traffic permits. Maximum roadway availability will be maintained during times of peak travel.

WhatsApp – Customers can chat with NYC Transit and Metro-North via WhatsApp. Riders can receive customer service support in their native language through the help of Google Translate. LIRR customers can access a similar chat feature through the LIRR TrainTime app, where customer service representatives are available every day from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
