NYC Transit President Davey Joins NYCT Employees and TWU Local 100 Members in Pride March to the West Village

MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) today celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride Month festivities by participating in the nation’s largest Pride March. NYCT President Richard Davey and members of the MTA’s LGTBQ+ Employee Resource Group ‘Pride Express’ joined TWU Local 100 President Richard Davis in marching down Fifth Avenue through to the parade’s end in the West Village to celebrate diversity, equality, and inclusion.
“I’m honored to serve as the Executive Sponsor of the MTA’s Pride Express Employee Resource Group, and to show my steadfast support for our LGBTQ+ employees and customers by participating in this year’s New York City Pride March alongside members of the ERG and TWU Local 100,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “Transit is proud this month to celebrate the LGBTQ+ Community with our largest ever Pride campaign, featuring Pride-themed MetroCards, decals on trains and buses, a historical walking tour, digital messaging and posters, and a Transit Talk.”
The MTA celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride all month long with a comprehensive public engagement campaign across subway, bus, Metro-North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Bridges and Tunnels.
Celebrations included:
• Pride decals adorning 50 subway cars, 50 Metro-North cars, 50 LIRR cars, and 50 Bridges and Tunnels maintenance cars.
• 50,000 Pride-themed MetroCards were available for purchase at select subway stations
• Pride-themed posters on display in subway stations and LIRR and Metro-North. platforms. The limited-edition posters specific to this year's Pride are available for purchase at New York Transit Museum stores and online.
• A TransitTalk was held on Tuesday, June 20 at Christopher St station in which MTA leadership heard directly from LGBTQ+ customers.
Additionally, the New York Transit Museum will host a historic walk through the West Village neighborhood on Thursday, June 29, touring the community’s extensive LGBTQ+ history. Tour stops will cover historic transit sites and landmarks including the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement. Click here to learn more.
Pride Express
The MTA celebrates and supports its LGBTQ+ workforce with the “Pride Express,” an employee resource group dedicated to championing the LGBTQ+ community within the MTA to raise awareness of the transformative power of representation in the workforce. Pride Express formally began in 2019 within NYCT and has since expanded to an agency-wide initiative that is open to employees for all MTA agencies.
