The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the swearing in of 46 new officers of the MTA Police Department (MTAPD). The officers were sworn in at an MTAPD ceremony held this morning, May 25, at Grand Central Terminal.
“It has never been more important to add new members to the MTA Police Department as we prioritize safety for our riders through an enhanced, visible law enforcement presence in the MTA system,” said MTA Chief Safety and Security Officer Patrick Warren. “The men and women of the MTAPD are integral to keeping MTA services and facilities safe, and I am thrilled to welcome these excellent new officers to the force.”
“I am delighted to welcome 46 remarkable young men and women to the MTA Police Department,” said MTA Police Department Acting Chief Sean Montgomery. “These new officers will play a critical role in furthering the mission of the MTA Police Department to protect our riders and workforce and keep the MTA system safe.”
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department is primarily responsible for patrolling and securing Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, MTA yards and shops, and the over 5,000 square mile footprint of MTA railroads commuters travel on from Montauk to Poughkeepsie. There are nearly 800 sworn officers and civilians who work in nine districts extending across 14 counties in New York and Connecticut.
