LIRR Performing Signal Testing as Part of Main Line Expansion Project 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced several projects taking place over President’s Day Weekend, between Friday, Feb. 18 and Tuesday, Feb. 22. These initiatives reflect the Authority’s broader modernization efforts, including the Culver Line Signal Modernization Project on the F line in Brooklyn, which will improve the reliability and resiliency of subway service in the borough.

Once completed, this work will ultimately provide the MTA with the ability to more seamlessly reroute service at times when unplanned disruptions arise or when planned service changes for construction or maintenance are in effect.

New York City Transit Subways 

Culver Line CBTC Work 
•    Between Friday, Feb. 18 at 9:45 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 5:00 a.m., the Culver Line ( ) between Church Avenue and Coney Island-Stillwell Av is closed. trains terminate at Church Av. Nearby trains and local buses will provide alternate service between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, riders can take trains. riders can transfer to/from the trains at 34 St-Herald Square in Manhattan, to/from the  train at Broadway-Lafayette in Manhattan, and to/from the train at 4 Av in Brooklyn.

8 Av Line CBTC Work 
•    Between 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, the 8th Avenue Line ( ) between 59 St-Columbus Circle and W 4 St; the World Trade Center station ( ) is also closed. and trains operate via 6 Av Line ( and lines) between 59 St-Columbus Circle and W 4 St, making all local stops. trains operate via the and lines between Roosevelt Av and 34 St/Broadway, via the 63 St tunnel during the day and via the 60 St tunnel during late nights. Brooklyn bound train service operates local between 57 St and Prince St. 

Queens Boulevard CBTC work 
•    Between 11:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, and trains run local between 36 St and 71 Av.  Overnight trains run local between Queens Plaza and 71 Av.  

Switch Replacement at 138 St-Grand Concourse 
•    Between 9:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, trains operate in two sections, between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse on the upper level and as a shuttle between E 180 St and Dyre Av. Bronx-bound and trains bypass 138 St-Grand Concourse. 

Nostrand Av Line Track Maintenance  
•    Between 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, the Nostrand Avenue Line ( ) is closed between Franklin Av and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College.  Shuttle buses replace train service between Franklin Av and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and trains operate to/from Crown Heights-Utica Av. trains terminate at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Late nights, trains operate to New Lots Av. 

Jamaica Line Track Replacement Installation  
•    Between 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19 and 10:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, the Jamaica Line ( ) is closed between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.  Shuttle buses replace train service between Crescent St and Jamaica-Van Wyck. riders to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av can transfer to/from the train at Jamaica-Van Wyck.

Montague St Tube Track Work 
•    Between 11:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, Manhattan-bound trains and late-night Manhattan-bound N trains operate via the Manhattan Bridge. 

New York City Transit Buses 

To encourage transit usage at LaGuardia Airport over the holiday weekend, the Q70 SBS will be free from Thursday, Feb. 17 through Friday, Feb. 25. 

Long Island Rail Road

The LIRR is performing signal testing as part of the Main Line Expansion Project between Saturday, Feb. 19 and Monday, Feb. 21, resulting in the following service changes. 

Huntington Branch service will be reduced to hourly, and buses will replace train service between Mineola and Huntington, with connecting Port Jefferson Branch service reduced to two-hourly intervals.   

Ronkonkoma Branch trains will operate with diesel equipment at two-hourly intervals from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma via the Central Branch, with connecting Greenport service adjusted accordingly.

Metro-North Railroad 

On Monday, Feb. 21, Metro-North will operate on a Saturday schedule. 

Bridges and Tunnels 

MTA Bridges & Tunnels is lifting roadwork at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 and will only perform necessary work during off peak hours over the holiday weekend.  

Roadwork and lanes closures will be monitored closely and adjusted as necessary based upon traffic volume. 

Channels for Service Updates 

Information about planned service changes is available through the MTA’s many real-time service information sources. 

MYmta app – Customers who use the comprehensive MYmta app will see real-time travel information for all MTA services in one place. 

MTA.info – The “Service Status” box at new.MTA.info is always the definitive source for the latest status for each line. 

Live Subway Map – The Live Subway Map shows the real-time position of trains, planned service changes at any given time, highlight accessible stations, and much more. 

Email and text message service updates – Customers are urged to sign up to receive alerts, tailored by specific branch and time of day, by visiting www.MyMTAAlerts.com

Twitter – Twitter users can follow @MTA, @NYCTSubway, @NYCTBus, @LIRR and @MetroNorth to receive dynamic service updates and customer service support. 

WhatsApp – NYC Transit incorporated using WhatsApp to expand the number of customer service channels available to riders and is especially helpful for non-native English speakers. Riders can receive customer service support in their native language through the help of Google Translate. 

These communication channels can be accessed while at home or on the go. For customers who are located at stations, the MTA will post the latest service updates on digital signs at station platforms and will make audio announcements over public address systems, and on-board announcements made by train crews. 

For those who prefer to contact the MTA by telephone, information is available by dialing 511, the New York State Travel Information Line. For customers calling from Connecticut, the number is 877-690-5114. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can use their preferred service provider for the free 711 relay to reach the MTA at 511.
