MTA Announces Service Changes Related to Westchester Square Station Accessibility Improvements

Crews Installing Three New Elevators, Making Additional Station Improvements  

 

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced service changes related to accessibility and station improvements at the Westchester Square train station in the Bronx. Westchester Square is one of eight stations throughout the city in a bundle receiving ADA upgrades. 

Crews are installing three new elevators, staircases, new ADA boarding areas, replacing platforms and staircases. One elevator is being installed from the street to the mezzanine, and two from the mezzanine to platforms. Fire alarms, security cameras, a public address system and digital screens are also being installed. 

These dates are subject to change and additional dates will be announced throughout the year. 

24/7 Service Changes 

Beginning Monday, June 12 at 5:00 a.m. through mid-July, Pelham Bay Park-bound trains will bypass the Westchester Square-E Tremont Av station. For service to this station, customers can take the to Middletown Rd and transfer to a Manhattan-bound train. For service from this station, customers can take the to Zerega Av and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. 

Beginning Monday, August 14 at 5 a.m. through mid-September, Manhattan-bound trains will bypass the Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av station. For service to this station, customers can take the train to Zerega Av and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. For service from this station, customers can take the train to Middletown Rd and transfer to a Manhattan-bound train.  

Weekday Service Changes 

Mondays through Fridays from Monday, June 12 through Friday, June 30 from 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Pelham Bay Park-bound trains will bypass the Castle Hill Av, Zerega, Av, Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av, Middletown Rd and Buhre Av stations. For service to these stations, customers can take the train to Pelham Bay Park and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound train. For service from these stations, customers can take the train to Parkchester and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. 

Mondays through Fridays from July 31 through August 25 from 9:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Manhattan-bound trains will bypass the Buhre Av, Middletown Rd, Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av, Zerega Av and Castle Hill Av stations. For service to these stations, customers can take the train to Parkchester and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. For service from these stations, customers can take the train to Pelham Bay Park and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound train. 

Weekend Service Changes 

From Friday at 9:45 p.m. through Monday at 5:00 a.m. during the weekends of June 2 to June 5, June 9 to June 12, June 23 to June 26,  June 30 to July 3, and July 7 to July 10, Pelham Bay Park-bound trains will bypass the Castle Hill Av, Zerega, Av, Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av, Middletown Rd and Buhre Av stations. For service to these stations, customers can take the train to Pelham Bay Park and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound train. For service from these stations, customers can take the train to Parkchester and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. 

From Saturday, June 17 at 3:45 a.m. to Sunday, June 18 at 10 p.m., free shuttle buses will replace train service between Parkchester and Pelham Bay Park.  

From Friday at 9:45 p.m. through Monday at 5:00 a.m. during the weekends of July 14 to July 17, July 21 to July 24, July 28 to July 31, August 4 to August 7, August 18 to August 21 and August 25 to August 28, Manhattan-bound trains will the skip Buhre Av, Middletown Rd, Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av, Zerega Av and Castle Hill Av stations. For service to these stations, customers can take the train to Parkchester and transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train. For service from these stations, customers can take the 6 train to Pelham Bay Park and transfer to a Brooklyn Bridge-bound train. 

From Friday, September 1 at 9:45 p.m. through Monday, September 4 at 5 a.m., trains will skip the Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av station in both directions. Free shuttle buses will operate between Westchester Sq-E Tremont Av and Zerega Av where customers can get train service.
