The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced the opening of two newly replaced elevators at the Court St station in Brooklyn. The entrance at Montague St also reopened after being closed during construction for a period of 13 months, which required riders to walk a greater distance to enter and exit the station during rehabilitation work.

The two brand new elevators replaced the original elevators, which were in service for more than half a century and were beyond their useful lives. NYC Transit crews also made station enhancements during the replacement work to maximize the number of repairs made during the outage, including power washing the station platforms, street stairs and mezzanine areas; new lighting; newly painted staircases, ceilings, and railings and replacement of tiling. Crews also made upgrades to the communication system within the station.

“The completed work at Court Street demonstrates our commitment to maximizing the repairs made to our facilities during service outages,” said MTA Construction and Development President Jamie Torres-Springer. “Riders using the Court Street station will benefit not only from brand new elevators, but from new lighting, newly painted staircases, replaced tiling, and a thorough power washing.”

“Modern and reliable elevators help us deliver faster, cleaner, and safer service to customers,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey. “Thanks to new, modernized elevators at Court St, train customers will benefit from a smoother, safer experience getting to and from the platform. But we didn’t stop there, by deep-cleaning the platform and installing enhanced audio, Court St has seen a total upgrade with an eye towards making the customer experience better.”

“After a year of being closed, I am thrilled that the MTA has finally completed work and re-opened the Montague Street side entrance/exit of the Court Street station,” said Representative Dan Goldman. “We must also recognize the infrastructure upgrades that need to occur in our subway system. I’m thankful to the MTA for staying on top of this project and to the community stakeholders for keeping the momentum going.”

“Millions of New Yorkers use our subways, every single day — and ensuring our elevators are in working order is crucial for each and every one of them,” said State Senator Andrew Gounardes. “I applaud the MTA for their hard work in restoring elevator service at the Court Street station, and look forward to our community's continued use of these elevators for all their transit needs.”

“I’m glad that the brand-new Court Street Station elevators are complete and that the Montague Street entrance is now open again,” said Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon. “These modern elevators will bring reliability to the customer experience, and will allow customers to more easily navigate this subway station. I’m grateful to the community for their patience and thankful to the MTA for completing this crucial upgrade.”

“I’m pleased the Court St elevator replacement work has been completed,” said Councilmember Lincoln Restler. “The Brooklyn Heights community patiently waited for this important work to be done and will now benefit from the new elevators for years to come. Thank you to the MTA for prioritizing this station.”
