Subway service changes: January 20-23

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, everyone! We've got good news for the week ahead: On Monday, January 23, weekday rush hour  express service returns to the Bronx. The closure helped us make major progress toward completing structural repairs along the 89-year-old line.

Here's how service will run:

  • From 6-9 a.m., downtown   trains will run express from Fordham Rd to 145 St, with a stop at Tremont Av.
  • From 4-7 p.m., uptown   trains will run express from 145 St to Fordham Rd, with a stop at Tremont Av.
  • For service to/from local stops, take the   train.

And now, here's what's going on this weekend:

  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Penn Station and New Lots Av
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trains are not running between 34 St-Penn Station and New Lots Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from stations between 34 St-Penn Station and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take the  .
  • For service to/from stations between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the  , which is extended to New Lots Av all weekend.
  •  trains are running between Harlem-148 St and 34 St-Penn Station all weekend, including overnight.

 trains, Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains are not running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St in either direction, and downtown trains are not stopping at 155 St. This is because of structural maintenance work.

  •  trains are running between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  • For service to/from 155 St, take an uptown  train.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, take the  .
  • Norwood-205 St is connected by a free shuttle bus to Mosholu Pkwy  . Transfer between the   and the   at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

 trains, Brooklyn

Trains are not running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take   trains.
  • For direct service to/from W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the   train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains are not running between 8 Av and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.   trains will provide additional service to/from Manhattan, making regular stops to/from 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr, and   line stops to/from 96 St.

  • In Manhattan, M14A/D-SBS buses provide alternative service at   stations along 14 St. Transfer between the M14 and the   train at 6 Av or Delancey St-Essex St to get to/from Brooklyn.
  • In Brooklyn, free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • Between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
    • Between Lorimer St, Bedford Av, Marcy Av  , Hewes St  , and Broadway  .
  • Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx

Manhattan-bound trains are running on the express track from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, Queens

All Manhattan-bound trains are running on the express track from Forest Hills-71 Av to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queens-bound train.
