Subway and rail service changes: September 9-12

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Even though fall is just around the corner, we're going to have summery temperatures this weekend — so get outside and enjoy the warm weather. Whatever you end up doing, we're here to help you get where you're going. 

Here are some of the bigger changes this weekend:

  •  trains aren't running between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College
  •  trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse
  •  trains will replace   trains between 168 St and 145 St, and are not running between 207 St and 168 St
  •  trains aren't running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr
  •  trains aren't running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs
  •  trains aren’t running between 121 St and Jamaica Center
  •  trains aren't running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville and are replaced by free shuttle buses

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

Trains are not running between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College. Look for signs outside affected stations to find the closest shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Wakefield-241 St and Crown Hts-Utica Av on the   and  lines.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains are not running between 168 St and Inwood-207 St in either direction, and   trains are not running between 168 St and 145 St in either direction. This is because of rail, switch, and signal replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running on Broadway between 168 St and Inwood-207 St, and on Fort Washington Avenue between 168 St and 190 St. Look for signs outside affected subway stations to find the closest shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between 168 St and Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd, making local stops at 155 St and 163 St-Amsterdam Av.
  •  trains are running between 145 St and Euclid Av.
  • Reminder:   trains do not run overnight.
  •  trains also make nearby stops between 168 St and 207 St.

Downtown   and   trains are running on the   line from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jay St-MetroTech because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, or Chambers St/World Trade Center, take the   and transfer to/from the   at W 4 St-Washington Sq.
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the   and transfer to/from the   at Delancey St-Essex St on the  .
  • For service to/from High St, use the nearby York St   station.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Trains are not running between 34 St-Herald Sq and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday because of preventative maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between W 4 St-Wash Sq and Grand St. Look for signs outside affected stations to find the closest shuttle bus stop.
  • Also consider taking the   train to E Broadway.
  •  trains are running between Norwood-205 St and 34 St Herald Sq, and between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take   trains.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

Trains are not running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs in either direction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Look for signs outside affected subway stations to find the closest shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.

 trains, Queens

Trains are not running between 121 St and Jamaica Center in either direction 24/7 because of track and concrete replacement work. 

  •  trains are running between Broad St and 121 St, and terminate at 121 St.
  • For service between 121 St and Jamaica Center, take a free J99 shuttle bus to/from the Jamaica-Van Wyck station. There, you can catch an   train to/from Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center.
  • LIRR will cross-honor MetroCards at Atlantic Terminal, Nostrand Av, East New York, Jamaica, Hollis, Queens Village, St Albans, Locust Manor, Laurelton, and Rosedale.

 trains, Staten Island

Trains are not running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville in either direction from 1 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of maintenance work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jefferson Av and Tottenville. Look for signs outside affected stations to find the closest shuttle bus stop.
  •  trains are running between St George and Jefferson Av.

Other service changes

 trains, Bronx and Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Crown Hts-Utica Av to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Brooklyn-bound train.

Brooklyn-bound   trains are running on the express track from E 180 St to 3 Av-149 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound train.

 trains are not running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse in either direction from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement. 

  •  trains are running between Dyre Av and E 180 St, and between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green.
  • For service to/from stations between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E 180 St, take the  .

 trains, Brooklyn

Queens-bound and Euclid Av-bound trains are running on the express track from Utica Av to Euclid Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • Reminder:   trains don't run overnight.

 trains, Brooklyn

Trains are running on the express track between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St in both directions from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Sunday because of preventative maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take   trains.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

Manhattan-bound trains are bypassing Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood, and 75 Av from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queens-bound train.

Jamaica-bound  trains are running on the express track from Kings Hwy to 18 Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Coney Island-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound trains are running on the   line from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Canal St from 6 a.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday because of communications improvement work.

  • Manhattan-bound   trains are making all   stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Canal St.
  • Board Manhattan-bound   trains on the   platform at Canal St.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Oyster Bay, Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma branches

Trains are not running between Jamaica and Hicksville in both directions because of construction related to the LIRR Expansion Project.  

  • From Hicksville, take a shuttle train to Babylon for service towards Jamaica and Penn Station.  
  • Oyster Bay Branch trains will run between East Williston and Oyster Bay. Shuttle buses connect East Williston, Mineola, and Hempstead.  
  • For stations New Hyde Park through Westbury, use nearby NICE buses or Hempstead Branch stations.
