Subway and rail service changes: May 10-13, 2024

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! Tomorrow is National Train Day, so thanks to all our riders for making the MTA the busiest passenger rail system in the nation!

If you're traveling to JFK Airport this weekend, note that the  isn't stopping at Howard Beach-JFK Airport. To connect to the AirTrain JFK, take the  or  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport or the LIRR to Jamaica.

And a note for our 14 St riders: The passageway between the ​​​​​ and ​​​ stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Rockaway Blvd and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
  •  trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • Downtown ​ trains are running on the ​ from 47-50 Sts Rockefeller Ctr to W 4 St-Washington Sq.
  •  trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Jamaica-bound ​ trains are running on the ​ from 5 Av/53 St to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.
  •  ​trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  • ​ and late-night ​ trains are running on the ​ between Canal St and DeKalb Av and late-night ​ trains aren't running between Whitehall St-South Ferry and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  •  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't stopping at Broad Channel.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains are running on the  from 47-50 Sts Rockefeller Ctr to W 4 St-Washington Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
  • For service to/from 50 St and 23 St, take downtown  or local  trains or use nearby  stations on 6 Av.
  • For service to/from 42 St-Port Authority Bus Terminal, 34 St-Penn Station, and 14 St, take  trains or use nearby ​ stations on 6 Av.

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, uptown  and local  trains are making express stops from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle and uptown  trains are making express stops from Canal St to 34 St-Penn Station. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Spring St, take downtown  or local  trains.
  • For service to/from 23 St, take downtown  or local  trains.
  • For service to/from 50 St, take uptown  or downtown  or local  trains.

 trains, Queens

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between Rockaway Blvd and Far Rockaway-Mott Av and  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains aren't stopping at Broad Channel. This is because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from affected stations, take free shuttle buses, which are running along three routes:
    • Far Rockaway shuttle buses are running nonstop between Rockaway Blvd and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
    • Rockaway Blvd shuttle buses are running between Rockaway Blvd and Beach 67 St, stopping at Howard Beach-JFK Airport (Beach 67 St-bound buses only), Broad Channel, and Beach 90 St.
    • Howard Beach shuttle buses are running between Rockaway Blvd and Howard Beach-JFK Airport, stopping at Aqueduct Racetrack and Aqueduct-N Conduit Av.
    • Transfer between  trains and shuttle buses at Rockaway Blvd.
    • Transfer between  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains and shuttle buses at Far Rockaway-Mott Av, Beach 67 St, or Beach 90 St.
    • When exiting the subway at Rockaway Blvd, Beach 67 St, or Far Rockaway-Mott Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains aren't stopping at Howard Beach-JFK Airport. For service to JFK Airport, take  trains to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running between Inwood-207 St and Lefferts Blvd.
  •  Rockaway Park Shuttle trains are running between Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St and Far Rockaway-Mott Av, every 15 minutes.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't stopping at Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to this station, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Bay 50 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​ trains.
  • ​ trains are running between Norwood-205 St and Bay 50 St.

 trains, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens

 trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization.

  • For service between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take free shuttle buses, which are making all  stops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.

Jamaica-bound  trains are running on the  from 5 Av/53 St to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av from 10:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of close-out work from the 63 St project.

  • For service to 57 St, use nearby 5 Av/53 St  or 5 Av-57 St .
  • For service to Lexington Av/63 St, take the .
  • For service from bypassed stations, and service to Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge, take a Manhattan-bound .

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between 8 Av, 6 Av, and 14 St-Union Sq, take free L92 shuttle buses or the M14.
    • When exiting the subway at these stations, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 and late-night  trains are running on the  between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from stations between City Hall and Whitehall St, use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from Court St and Jay St-MetroTech, use nearby Borough Hall .

Late-night  trains aren't running between Whitehall St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in either direction and are making express stops between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St in both directions. This is because of structural improvement work.

  • This service change is in effect from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5:15 a.m. Saturday, 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 5:15 a.m. Sunday, and 11:45 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday.
  • For service to/from Whitehall St, Court St, and Jay St-MetroTech, use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take  trains.
  • For service to/from local stations between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Bay Ridge-95 St.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and local  trains aren't stopping between Chambers St and 14 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Wakefield-bound  and Eastchester-bound  trains aren't stopping between 3 Av-149 St and E 180 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound  trains are making express stops from Pelham Bay Park to Hunts Point Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running less frequently in the Bronx. The last stop for alternate Bronx-bound trains is 3 Av-138 St. Transfer to a Pelham Bay Park-bound train to continue your trip.

 trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Sutphin Blvd and Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Briarwood from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Jamaica Center-bound  or Jamaica-bound .

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Manhattan-bound  and local  trains aren't stopping between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and Queens Plaza and Manhattan-bound local  trains aren't stopping between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and 21 St-Queensbridge. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Forest Hills-bound  or Jamaica-bound local  train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Hempstead, Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma branches

Westbound trains aren't stopping at Elmont-UBS Arena, Queens Village, or Hollis from 2 a.m. Saturday to 6:45 a.m. Sunday because of signal improvement work.

  • Buses are running from Queens Village and Hollis to Jamaica.
    • Buses aren't running to Elmont-UBS Arena. For service to/from this station, use nearby Bellerose.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis from 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 11:59 p.m. Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead.
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
