Subway and rail service changes: January 5-8, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.
Updated January 5, 2024 11:00 a.m.

It's the first weekend of the year, and we're jumping right into the service changes.

Service on the  lines remains disrupted following a derailment at 96 St yesterday. Our crews are working to restore regular service as soon as possible. View real-time service updates on our homepage.

If you're traveling between Manhattan and Queens this weekend, there's a major service change to be aware of, which is a repeat of one you may remember from mid-November:  and  trains aren't running between Manhattan and Queens while we make accessibility upgrades at Queensboro Plaza. For a one-seat ride between Manhattan and Queens, take  trains, or the LIRR, which will accommodate MetroCard holders at no additional cost for service between Penn Station, Grand Central, Woodside, Mets-Willets Pt, and Flushing. This service change will repeat for several weekends this year, and after completion, riders will benefit from a fully ADA-accessible station at Queensboro Plaza. Learn more.

Here's what else is happening (also viewable as a handy map):

  • Overnight,  trains are running on the  line between Queens Plaza and 34 St-Herald Sq, the last stop
  •  shuttle trains aren't running between Lexington Av/63 St and 21 St-Queensbridge

For more detailed breakdowns, keep on scrolling. We’ve also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.
