Subway and rail service changes: April 19-22, 2024

There are service changes on the subway, LIRR, and Metro-North this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! Earth Day is this coming Monday, and if you're a regular MTA rider, you're already doing your part to reduce carbon emissions and make the city greener. Good job!

A heads up for Bronx  riders: The service changes outlined below will be in effect for all of next week, with service between the affected stations resuming on Monday, April 29. Keep reading for more details.

And a note for our 14 St riders: The passageway between the ​​ and ​ stations is closed this weekend. A free out-of-station street transfer is available using OMNY or MetroCard.

Here's what's happening this weekend (also available in handy map form):

  •  trains aren't running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
  • Downtown ​ trains are running on the ​ from 47-50 Sts Rockefeller Ctr to W 4 St-Washington Sq.
  • ​ trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  ​trains aren't running between 8 Av and Lorimer St.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 29,  trains aren't running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St in either direction because of track replacement.

  • Free Bx90 shuttle buses are running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, making all  stops.
  •  trains are running between E 180 St and Bowling Green Saturday and Sunday and during weekday evenings. On weekdays,  trains are running between E 180 St and Flatbush Av. 
    • Weekday express rush-hour trains are still running, with some trains running to/from Nereid Av.
    •  trains aren't running overnight.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains are running on the  from 47-50 Sts Rockefeller Ctr to W 4 St-Washington Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the .
  • For local service between 50 St and 14 St, take  or local  trains or use nearby  stations on 6 Av.
  • For service to/from 42 St/Port Authority Bus Terminal or 34 St-Penn Station, take  trains or use nearby ​ stations on 6 Av.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, making all  stops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take  trains.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Kings Hwy.

 trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and Lorimer St in either direction from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • Free shuttle buses are running along two routes:
    • L92 in Manhattan, making all  stops between 8 Av and 1 Av and connecting with  trains at Delancey St-Essex St. M14A-SBS buses also make these stops.
    • In Brooklyn, between Bedford Av , Metropolitan Av/Lorimer St , Broadway , Hewes St , and Marcy Av .
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, transfer to/from  trains at Broadway Junction or the  at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.
  • ​ trains are running between Lorimer St and Canarsie-Rockaway Av.

From 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, ​ trains are running between Metropolitan Av-Middle Village and 96 St ​ in both directions. ​ 

  • trains are running on the ​ between 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr and Lexington Av/63 St and on the ​ between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown ​ trains aren't stopping between 145 St and 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Uptown  and local  trains are running on the express track from Chambers St to 14 St and from 72 St to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of structural improvement work and track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes during the day and evening while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

​ trains aren't running in either direction Sunday morning until 10 a.m, and Manhattan-bound ​ trains aren't stopping at Jackson Av from 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday. This is because of monthly track maintenance.

  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, take free Bx90 shuttle buses.
  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the .
  • For service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, take the .
  • For service to/from Jackson Av, take a Wakefield-bound ​ train.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and local  trains are running on the express track from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.
  • Note:  trains are running every 20 minutes during the day and evening while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, Queens

Flushing-bound  trains are running on the express track from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local trains are running on the express track from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Bay Ridge-bound  and Coney Island-bound local  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday. This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a local Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn and Queens

Coney Island-bound  trains aren't stopping between 59 St and Kings Hwy from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping between Astoria Blvd and Queensboro Plaza from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an Astoria-bound train.
  • At Queensboro Plaza, all trains arrive and depart on the upper level platform.
  •  trains are running every 15 minutes during the day and evening.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Babylon and West Hempstead branches

Trains aren't stopping at St. Albans in either direction from 10:30 p.m. Friday to 2 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

Hempstead Branch

Trains aren't running between Floral Park and Hempstead from 9 p.m. Friday to 2:15 a.m. Monday because of bridge repair work.

  • Buses are running between Bellerose and Hempstead, stopping at Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, and Garden City.
    • Buses aren't stopping at Country Life Press. For service to/from this station, use nearby Garden City.
    • Bellerose is not an accessible station. If you need an elevator, stay on the train to Floral Park, where van service to Hempstead is available.

Metro-North Railroad service changes

Port Jervis Line

Trains aren't running between Suffern and Port Jervis all day Saturday and Sunday because of track work and bridge maintenance.

  • Buses connect Ramsey-Route 17 station with all stops between Sloatsburg and Port Jervis.
  • For service to Hoboken and New York from Otisville and Salisbury Mills, consider using nearby Middletown or Harriman stations instead. 
    • Only local bus service, which does not connect with trains at Ramsey-Route 17, is available at Otisville and Salisbury Mills.
  • Trains are running between Hoboken and Suffern on a modified schedule with no express trains.
