Changes to transferring at 14 St-6 Av

We're making accessibility upgrades at 14 St-6 Av that require us to temporarily close the transfer passageway between the 1/2/3 and L/F/M trains. Here's what you need to know.

What we're doing

Beginning Monday, February, 27, we're temporarily closing the passageway connecting the   trains at 14 St and   trains at 14 St-6 Av. This means you won't be able to transfer between those trains inside the station. A free out-of-system walking transfer will be available while the passageway is closed. The closure is expected to last until December 2023.

Why we're doing it

We're working to make the 14 St-6 Av station complex fully accessible. Renovating the transfer passageway is a critical part of this project.

This work includes:

  • Constructing a new ramp at the west end of the passageway
  • Installing new lighting
  • Replacing ceramic wall tiles

Once all parts of the accessibility project are complete, riders will benefit from new elevators, refurbished staircases, mezzanines, and platforms.

Travel alternatives

If you normally transfer between the   and   trains at 14 St-6 Av, you'll still be able to for free via an out-of-system walking transfer. To make the transfer, exit the station and walk across 14 St from Sixth Avenue to Seventh Avenue or vice versa to reach the other side of the station. Tap your OMNY payment method or swipe your MetroCard and you'll automatically receive a free transfer to re-enter the station.* If your trip starts or ends on a bus route, this will not count against your free transfer.

*Note: Single Ride MetroCard is not eligible for out-of-system transfers.

If your trip involves traveling through Midtown, you may instead opt to transfer between the   and   trains at Times Sq-42 St/42 St-Bryant Park via the 42 St Shuttle passageway, which will be open 24/7 during the closure.

As an alternative route for transferring between the  and  , take the   or   train between Times Sq-42 St and 14 St-Union Sq.
