Apply to be part of ACTA, the Advisory Committee for Transit Accessibility

Updated Nov 15, 2022
ACTA is an all-volunteer group of 18 community members committed to working with the MTA on a range of accessibility issues.

Members of the Advisory Committee for Transit Accessibility (ACTA) help the MTA Accessibility team and departments across the agency develop new accessibility initiatives, provide feedback on active projects, and promote these projects to the community. ACTA also collects community and rider feedback to share with the MTA to identify accessibility challenges and opportunities.

The full ACTA group meets quarterly (currently in person with a hybrid option) for discussions with MTA staff on a range of topics related to accessibility. ACTA holds additional monthly meetings on dedicated topics. ACTA members are expected to attend and actively participate in these meetings.

The MTA is seeking a diverse group of community members to fill multiple vacancies on the committee. The goal of ACTA is to be representative of the MTA’s rider base, including members with various disabilities and those who represent other accessibility needs, and riders of all the MTA’s service modes. Members need not be technical experts in disability or accessibility issues, but must be committed to working with the MTA to advance systemwide accessibility.

How to apply to be an ACTA member

If you are interested in joining ACTA, please submit your resume and a short letter of interest using this application form. Your letter of interest should include the following:

  1. Your experience with accessibility and the transit system
  2. The strengths you would bring to the committee
  3. Any particular areas of interest you have within the scope of transit accessibility

Applications are due Monday, November 28, 2022.

A selection committee including current ACTA members will review all applications and schedule interviews with qualified applicants. We will announce the new ACTA members once all positions are filled.
