Customers Traveling to JFK Airport Advised to Take Train or LIRR to Jamaica to Connect to the AirTrain
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) New York City Transit today detailed weekend maintenance work affecting subway service to JFK Airport. Crews will be performing Hurricane Sandy completion work, track maintenance and maintenance work on the South Channel Bridge.
Between 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 and 10:00 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, train service will terminate at Ozone Park-Lefferts Boulevard and will not run to Howard Beach-JFK or the Rockaways. Rockaway Park Shuttle service will operate between Far Rockaway and Rockaway Park.
This project will also run during the weekends of Sept. 24 through Sept. 25 and Oct. 1 through Oct 2.
Customers are encouraged to utilize the following travel options:
- train to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av/JFK to connect to the AirTrain
- Long Island Rail Road service to Jamaica to connect to the AirTrain
- train to Rockaway Blvd to free MTA shuttle bus to Howard Beach-JFK to connect to AirTrain
- train to Lefferts Blvd to Q10 bus to AirTrain
NYC Transit is also operating three free shuttle buses:
- Between Rockaway Blvd and Howard Beach-JFK
- Between Rockaway Blvd and Far Rockaway
- Between Rockaway Blvd and Rockaway Park
trains are suspended at both Sutphin Blvd-Archer/JFK and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer this weekend due to work along the / lines. train riders should not transfer at Broadway Junction to get to JFK.
Please note that the AirTrain will be closed from 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17 to 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18 for maintenance. The Port Authority will run shuttle buses during that time.
Service information is available on the MTA website and on the MYmta app. Customers can sign up for the “MTA Weekender,” a weekly digest of major weekend service changes throughout the transit system. Special planned work messaging will also be displayed on digital screens in stations starting tomorrow, Sept. 16.
