Ways to pay tolls in New York City

Updated Mar 20, 2024
There are several ways to pay tolls in New York City: E-ZPass, Tolls by Mail, and Pay Toll Now. No matter how you pay, you can use any lane. Only E-ZPass will get you a discount of 30-50 percent.

Coronavirus precautions

E-ZPass walk-in offices are closed because of the pandemic. If you need help, see our resources guide.

With E-ZPass

Automatic Replenishment

This payment plan is ideal for the frequent traveler. By linking your E-ZPass to a credit card, debit card or bank account, you can drive through every toll facility with confidence, knowing your account will automatically be replenished whenever the balance gets too low. Your monthly replenishment amount is based on your travel history.

Pay Per Trip

Instead of charging your credit card to maintain a minimum balance on your E-ZPass at all times, Pay Per Trip lets you pay only for the tolls you use by linking your E-ZPass directly to your bank checking account.

Pay With Cash

This plan gives you E-ZPass toll discounts, with no credit card or bank account required. Just purchase an E-ZPass tag at a Customer Service Center, register it, and then refill your balance with a Reload Card as needed.

Without E-ZPass

Tolls by Mail

The bill for your tolls will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner. You can pay this bill by mail, on the phone or in person, using a check, credit card, bank account or cash. Visit the Tolls by Mail site or call 1-844-826-8400 for more information.

Pay Toll Now Account

Our "Pay Toll Now" service lets you use your license plate and credit card to set up a short-term account – ideal if you are renting or borrowing a car.
